Volunteer Information
Union County Public Schools has a strict volunteer screening program that started during the 2003-2004 school year. Processing the volunteer application does take some time, so it is important for you to complete and return one soon if you plan to help with classroom events, school wide projects, tutoring, field trips, PTA programs, etc. A complete background check is required as part of the application for all volunteers as you will have direct contact with students in our school. While your application is pending, you may volunteer in the classrooms or other areas of the school only while a staff member is present. Until your application has been approved for Level 4 status, you may not be one on one with a child nor may you be alone with a group of children in a classroom. Results of the background checks will be held confidential by the Human Resources Department of the school system and you will be notified by the school only when your application has been approved.
If by chance you were a Level 4 volunteer last year at another school, your status does not automatically transfer to Rocky River. If you are one of these volunteers, please fill out a transfer form to add Rocky River Elementary to your list of approved schools. Until this form has been processed you may not be one on one with a child nor may you be alone with a group of children even though you were previously a Level 4 volunteer at another school. You may however volunteer anywhere in the school with a staff member present while this process is pending.
The support and involvement of Rocky River’s families is an important aspect of our Elementary School. Please stop by the school office to pick up either a volunteer application or a transfer form and then return it to the school for processing. Each and every volunteer plays a crucial role in helping our school become one of the premier Elementary schools in Union County, and we thank you for taking your time and investing it with us.
